Work-life balance ….. wellness ….. what is it really?
We’ve heard about it; we’ve tried to do it and most of us fail at it.
After Covid, it is even more hectic to get the balance right.
I heard the other day that exhaustion is the new “I am fine”. Can you relate to this?
Sapien Labs did a study in 2022 about the mental state in the world and guess what, South Africa ranked the lowest of 64 countries on well-being. We, as South Africans, are struggling and are distressed according to the study. How do we thrive again?
With this in mind, I realised that my balance is so off, that there is no movement in any direction, let alone moving forward. I started to wonder how I balance everything in my life and I am honest to say, it sounds impossible to achieve. At the moment, it feels like I am only working, eating and sleeping. Where is the time for having fun, for spending time with friends or working in the garden, whatever hobby you have?
I came across a holistic framework that encompasses various dimensions of a person’s life. These dimensions are interconnected and can impact each other. Achieving balance and wellness in these areas can contribute to an overall sense of well-being and a higher quality of life. It’s important to remember that well-being is a dynamic and individualised concept, and everyone’s journey towards achieving well-being may be different. It’s important to assess and address each dimension of well-being based on your unique needs, values, and circumstances. I will spend some time over the next few weeks to explain each area in more detail and also give practical tips to assist you, if you are going to join me, on this journey.
